Old Rectory Barn - Top Green Tips
As a visitor to Wales you can reduce your impact on the environment while you are here by making a few simple changes to the way you do things. Going green does not mean reducing quality; looking after the environment is about doing more with less.
- Seeing the Light – but switch them off when they are not needed – then go outside and look up – clear night skies free of light pollution will let you see the stars like never before. BBNP is a Dark Skies location.
- The Heat is on……but does it need to be? Turn it down or even off completely. The Barn is so well insulated you’ll probably need to anyway.
- Be Water Wise – take a refreshing shower instead of a bath, and switch off the cold tap while you are brushing your teeth. Remember our rainwater harvesting system has already reduced your water usage.
- A Clean Getaway – use environmentally friendly products to wash yourself, your clothes and your dishes. We have provided the products so you don’t need to spend extra money on these during your holiday.
- Use local shops and businesses during your stay. The more you do this the more likely they will still be here next time you visit!
- Give Your Car a Holiday by using the train or bus. It can be difficult to reduce car journeys when living in a rural area however, we have provided details of how to find us by train and bus and we are always happy to pick you up from the station and once here there is plenty of things to do on car free days.
- Get on Your Bike or Put Your Best Foot Forward. There is a selection of wonderful local walks in the Barn or we can help you plan your outings. We have secure storage for cycles and a drying room if you do get wet. We can also help you hire cycles.
- The three “R”s
Reuse – refill your plastic bottle with water instead of buying another –
our tap water is fine to drink.
Recycle – your paper, cardboard, cans, glass & plastic – we have provided recycling facilities that follow the Monmouthshire County Council scheme.
