Greentraveller chat to Hilary about Old Rectory Barn's sustainable credentials ..... please take a look.... and check out the full review on the Greentraveller website here.
At Old Rectory Barn, we endeavour to develop and manage the impact of our business on the environment in as sustainable way as possible. In 2008 we were one of the first businesses in the Brecon Beacons to enter the Green Business Tourism Scheme (GBTS). and were awarded a Gold Award. We no longer feel the necessity to belong to the scheme but still maintain our commitment to the environment. For example we have installed a charging point for electric cars and have a completely green electricity supplier.
We are committed to:
Sustainable Tourism, Green Tourism or Eco Tourism?
Different people understand sustainable, green or eco-tourism to mean slightly different things. However, what is generally agreed is that any such initiatives will aim to provide a fantastic holiday for all our visitors, but in a way which looks after the holiday destination’s local environment, distinctive culture and thriving economy, both now and in the future. After all these are often the distinctive local features which visitors come to experience in the first place – look after them and they’ll still be here when you want to come back…
How we can work together towards Green Tourism.
Green tourism works for everyone. Taking a green holiday is not about giving anything up as we hope that the quality of your experience will be enhanced by having hosts who know about the best the area has to offer, including walking and cycling, car free days out, the local culture and wildlife and sources of good food. Hilary is also a Brecon Beacons National Park Ambassador.
We have reduced our energy and water use and the waste we produce as well as using environmentally-friendly and fair trade products. We have been independently assessed on these and other criteria by a qualified professional and checked every two years to ensure standards are maintained. So you can feel virtuous as well as having a great eco holiday in the knowledge that the green aspects of your break have been taken care of!
We are committed to:
- Good environmental practice, minimising harmful effects.
- Complying with environmental laws and fulfilling duty of care requirements.
- Striving for continual environmental improvement and we welcome support and suggestions from our guests.
